What is CDPAP?

The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) is a New York Department of Health program for Medicaid recipients. If you are a Medicaid recipient, and are in need of assistance in the home, this program gives you an alternative way to receive home care services.

CDPAP puts you in charge of your care. Rather than using an outside home health care agency, you can direct your own care. You do all the recruiting, hiring, training and scheduling.

Hiring a stranger through a home care agency can leave you afraid and uncomfortable. You may be faced with arrangements that are unappealing and services that are inadequate. Having to deal with an agency that can’t seem to provide the services you need can be discouraging.
